We are delighted to welcome Matt Balshaw as our new Men's UPSL Head Coach. Balshaw arrives in Charleston having 10+ years of coaching experience at all levels from youth soccer to adult soccer. He is currently working as the Assistant at the Academic Magnet High School.

Prior to Charleston United, Matt worked with St. Croix Academy and the Academy & Technical Director at Mahtomedi Soccer. He currently advises Head Coaches at the University of Jamestown and LSU Shreveport on the recruitment of players from all across the world.

Before coaching, Balshaw played with both Minnesota United and the Madison 56ers where they reached the National Premier Soccer League Final Four. He is a three-time A.I.I All-Conference and defensive player of the year whilst studying at the University of Jamestown. Balshaw led the team to its first national tournament and a program-best #16 rank in the country.

Balshaw has earned a USSF "C" license, a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, and a United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping 1 license.

Balshaw is from Preston, England, and currently resides in North Charleston, S.C.
